A 6D driver’s licence only allows you to drive a moped.
Requirements and steps for obtaining a moped driver’s licence (class 6D)
- Be 14 years old or more.
- The entire training consists of 6 hours, divided into two steps.
First step
3 hours of theoretical courses (required before being able to proceed with the practical training)
Second step
3 hours of closed-circuit practice
- Successful completion of the SAAQ knowledge test (and visual exam)
Documents to bring to the SAAQ for the theoretical test:
- Written parental authorization (for those less than 18 years of age)
- Original copy of at least two (2) of the following documents: birth certificate, Canadian citizenship certificate, passport, health insurance card
- Certificate from your driving school (attesting that you successfully completed the moped driving course)
- Adequate funds to pay for your licence
If you have any licence other than a class 8 licence, you can drive a moped without undergoing any special training.
